Reviews & Race Reports
Start strong on the shaded path, but brace for sun after mile 17. Early hills can catch you off guard.
The Shaded Path — The first 17 miles are mostly on a shaded bike path, which many runners loved. After that, you hit direct sunlight, and it can feel intense. Expect to slow down at water stations to stay hydrated.
Early Hills — The course starts with a climb right at mile 1. Most runners found it manageable, but a few went out too fast and faced cramps later. Be prepared for some rolling terrain throughout.
Race Day Vibes — The atmosphere is supportive, especially when running with friends. Many runners noted the camaraderie helped them push through tough moments, especially in the final miles. It's a great race for those looking to chase personal bests or qualifying times.
Fought through illness to achieve a BQ finish
It was cool and humid and cloudy all morning. It could’ve been colder to start but we we’re definitely okay with the sun not shining too hard on us as we broke into Ventura. I ran with my pal the entire race until the final miles which was a blessing, as we kept each other reined in but also pushed the pace when we could.
Struggled with heat after leaving shaded path, but still PR'd
But after mile 17 the course took a bad turn and left the nice shaded bike path and went out to the sun. We were pretty much running in 65+ deg under direct sunlight. It was hot. I slowed down at every water station because the time spent there was not costing more than a few seconds.
Fought through cramps and extra distance to finish under 3 hours
It eventually started. Took off and headed uphill right at mile 1. I was expecting that anyway so it didn't feel that bad. Actually went out a bit too fast. By mile 2 I started noticing something under my left foot. It felt like a piece of sand or something hard. I ignored it because the climb started to get real.
