Walter Childs Half Marathon
Race Day Weather
Cool start — fast day potential, warming through the race, strong wind
A cool 44°F at the start line is ideal for fast times — expect to warm up quickly once you're moving. Temperatures rising to 55°F through the course will gradually increase perceived effort in the second half. Strong 20mph gusts could slow exposed stretches — tuck behind other runners when you can.

Race Info
The Walter Childs Half Marathon covers three laps of the 4.4-mile trail loop around Ashley Reservoir in Holyoke, Massachusetts. The surface is a hard-packed mix of dirt and gravel that can run dry and firm or a little muddy in early May. The loop starts and finishes beside the Elks Lodge on the only real hill of the course, with the rest of the lap flat and open to the water's edge, and includes a short out and back near the three-mile mark of each lap. It runs on the first Sunday of May, at the same time and on the same course as the marathon.
