Vernonia Half Marathon
Race Day Weather
Cool start — fast day potential, chance of rain
A cool 47°F at the start line is ideal for fast times — expect to warm up quickly once you're moving. Temperatures rising to 55°F through the course will gradually increase perceived effort in the second half. Light winds shouldn't be a major factor for pacing. There's a chance of rain, so have a backup gear plan ready. Moderate humidity at 67% is worth noting for effort level, especially in later miles.

Race Info
The Vernonia Half Marathon starts inside L.L. Stub Stewart State Park at the Hilltop day-use area, climbs for the first mile, then drops steeply to join the Banks-Vernonia State Trail near mile 2. From there the paved rail-trail runs as a gradual downhill to about mile 7 and then flat through the Oregon countryside to the finish on the track at Banks High School. The course is USATF-certified and finishes at the same place as the marathon, which makes it a fast, net-downhill half on the Sunday of race weekend.
