The Hungerford Games 45K runs a 5K out of town into the Hungerford Recreation Area of the Manistee National Forest, then one 21.9-mile loop, and back the same way. The loop mixes fire roads, two-track, sand and some singletrack, with the soft-surface hills of the Powerlines as its best-known stretch. More than 85 percent of the course is off pavement, and the race starts and finishes in Big Rapids, Michigan, on the last Saturday of September.
