The Athens Authentic Marathon runs from the town of Marathon to the Panathenaic Stadium in Athens, retracing the route of the ancient messenger legend. The course climbs steadily through Pikermi and Pallini before a long downhill into the stadium's final stretch on its tartan track, one of the toughest mid-race climbs of any major marathon.
