Race Info
The Tsukuba Marathon takes place in late November in Tsukuba, Ibaraki Prefecture, a science and research city about an hour northeast of Tokyo. The course starts at the Iias Tsukuba shopping complex and finishes at Tsukuba City Hall, a route introduced in 2025 that replaced the race's earlier loop through the University of Tsukuba campus. The marathon field is capped at 11,000 runners, one of the largest citizen marathons in Japan outside Tokyo. It is a Boston Marathon qualifier.
