Timp Trail Marathon
Race Day Weather
Cool start, gradual warm-up
Runners will face a starting temperature of 50°F, warming to 69°F by the finish. Winds will be from the SW at 10 mph, with gusts up to 26 mph. With average humidity at 47%, hydration is key, and runners should pace conservatively to accommodate the rising temperatures.
This is an extremely challenging, highly technical trail race that starts and finishes at Timpanogos Park. The marathon course is 99.9% mountain trail and fire break roads, featuring a grueling 5,883 feet of elevation gain. The organizers advise runners to treat this like an ultra-distance race: there are no mile markers, spectators, directional volunteers, or porta-johns on the course.
Runners can expect rocky, technical ascents and descents, as well as potential stream crossings, mud, or even snow. Because of the difficulty, they note that a runner who typically finishes a road marathon in 3:30 should expect to take 5 to 6 hours on this course. Source
