The Red Rock Canyon Marathon is run on a Saturday in January on the paved Scenic Drive in Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, west of Las Vegas. The course starts at the exit of the Scenic Drive at about 3,800 feet, runs against traffic through a short out-and-back on the Oak Creek dirt road, and climbs to the 4,771-foot summit overlook by mile 8.6. It drops to the Visitor Center at about 3,740 feet, loops it, then climbs back to the overlook near mile 18.4 before finishing where it started. There is no event parking at the canyon, so runners are bused to the start from the Strip or from a free pick-up lot, and the time limit is 7 hours. Source
