Madeline Island Marathon
Race Day Weather
Cool start — fast day potential, warming through the race
A cool 44°F at the start line is ideal for fast times — expect to warm up quickly once you're moving. Temperatures rising to 57°F through the course will gradually increase perceived effort in the second half. Light winds shouldn't be a major factor for pacing.
Located in La Pointe, Wisconsin, this is a scenic, small-scale destination race that requires taking a ferry from Bayfield, WI, to reach the starting line on Madeline Island. Both the marathon and half marathon start and finish at Joni's Beach.
The USATF-certified marathon is a loop course with a few short out-and-back sections. It primarily consists of paved roadways, though runners will also navigate about 3 to 4 miles of gravel. The race is capped at just 150 runners for the full marathon, giving it an intimate, community-focused feel. It features a 7-hour course limit and is known for its excellent post-race party, which includes a cookout, live music, and local beer. Source
