The Great North 5K is a Friday evening race that opens the Great North Run weekend in Newcastle and Gateshead. The flat, five-kilometre route starts and finishes on Newcastle's Quayside, passing the Tyne Bridge before crossing the Swing Bridge into Gateshead and returning via the Millennium Bridge.
