The Carlsbad Half Marathon is an out-and-back course that starts and finishes at The Shoppes at Carlsbad in northern San Diego County. Runners pass the Buena Vista Lagoon early, then follow Carlsbad Boulevard (Highway 101) south along the Pacific Ocean to a turnaround at Breakwater Road and return to the finish. The USATF-certified course is gently rolling with no major elevation changes, and more than 8 miles of it run along the ocean. It shares its start area with the marathon and is run on the Sunday of race weekend.
