Hey, it's Friday! Today we're highlighting last weekend's Tokyo Marathon history making results and reflecting on what it's like to run the Tokyo Marathon.

Highlight: Tokyo Marathon Results

It's been a week since Tokyo and Kipchoge's 10th place finish and whether or not he'll be selected for the Kenyan olympic team is all everyone can talk about, despite both the men's and women's course records being broken by Benson Kipruto and Sutume Asefa Kebede. Here's a great recap of the race from Japan Running News.

Other Popular Races This Weekend

We're in a bit of a lull stateside this week, but the Barcelona Marathon is one of the biggest marathons in Spain, and also the most popular on racecast.io for this upcoming weekend.

Land Between the Lakes Marathon
Catalina Island Marathon

Feature Updates on racecast.io

We've been looking at changing weather displays beyond a 15 day forecast. Those long range forecasts are really just statistical outcomes and with that we have a confidence range we'd like to visualize. Stay tuned for updates on that! We're also working on a new welcome email that should make this newsletter start to feel a bit more at home.

If you're looking to eventually get that six star medal, Tokyo is one of the hardest races to get into and one of the most culturally different compared to the US and European majors. I'm particularly curious about the "gourmet-esque 7-Elevens" 🤤

Like the title implies, there's nothing revolutionary here. If you've ever followed a training plan, there are elements of periodization in them if you know it or not. This article does a good job, not only of describing the what, but also the why.

I haven't read the book yet, but it's next on my list. I'm a big fan of I Run Far and it's nice to see Sabrina Little putting out a longer read based on her column and rooted in her running career. You can find a copy here.
