Sutume Asefa Kebede held on with a large pack of Japanese runners, and, with Rosemary Wanjiru and Amane Beriso Shankule, dropped favorite, Sifan Hassan resulting in her 4th place finish. On the men's side, Benson Kipruto held on for the win after a blistering 60:20 first half while crowd favorite Eliud Kipchoge was dropped on the hill at about 20K - ultimately finishing 10th despite a strong finish.
