The 2023 Boilermaker 15K & 5K kicked off this morning with overcast skies threatening rain over the 12000+ runners. The Men’s 5K finished in just under 16 minutes, the win taken by Casey Malloy of New Hartford, NY. On the women’s side, Ashley Rathbun of Springfield, NJ finished with a time of 20:19. This article will be updated as the 15K wraps up and the top ten start filtering in.

Jemal Yimer (and three others) break the men’s course record at the Boilermaker 15K.

The top four men all came under the previous course record of 42:38 (2022) today with XX leading the pack. Jemal Yimer (Addis Ababa, Ethiopia) won with a time of 42:06 (4:31/mi). John Korir (Eldoret, Kenya) came in a close second at 42:12. Charles Langat (Keringet, Kenya) and Omar Ait Chitachen (Khouribga, Morocco) rounded out third and fourth with 42:27 and 42:32.

Jesca Chelangat breaks the women’s Boilermaker 15K course record.

Another broken record, the former women’s course record at the Boilermaker 15K was 47:57 (2010). Jesca Chelangat (Iten, Kenya) shaved off an amazing 27 seconds with a time of 47:30 (5:06/mi) to take the top prize. Sarah Naibei (Grand Prairie, TX) came in second with a time of 48:44 and Cynthia Limo (Lansing, MI) came in third at 48:49.

Edna Kiplagat dismisses the 15K Master’s Course Record.

Crowd favorite and former course record holder, Edna Kiplagat (Longmont, CO), proved she’s still a contender clawing back a few spots in the last 5K to finish in fourth at 49:09. At 43 years old, that breaks the course record for the Women’s Masters, previously set by Edith Masai (Kenya) with a time of 50:40 in 2002.
